The Procedure

After the Gamma Knife team has completed your treatment plan, you will be taken into the treatment room where you will be positioned on the Gamma Knife bed. A collimator helmet will be placed on your head. The ports covering the helmet will allow the proper amount of radiation to be aimed at the target area. Each beam produces a small amount of radiation that has little affect on healthy tissue, but where the 201 beams intersect the radiation provides a powerful treatment. The actual procedure lasts less than 45 minutes.
