If you have an AVM, you may need an angiogram, an imaging procedure that will help doctors determine the exact location of the artery and vein formation. Your doctor will discuss this procedure with you in detail and advise you of any risks.
After your imaging studies have been completed, a plastic helmet will be fitted over your head frame in order to obtain precise head contour measurements. Meanwhile, your radiation physicist, neurosurgeon and other staff will examine your imaging studies and design a customized dose plan for you. The planning time may range from one to four hours. Your nurse will be available during this time to monitor your comfort. Some patients chose to take a nap or listen to their favorite music. You may bring your favorite CDs or tapes to be played on our stereo.
